Therapy for Women, LGBTQ+ Adults, and Adult Children of Difficult Families
For people who are high-functioning on the outside but overwhelmed, overextended, or exhausted on the inside.
I’m Alicia de la Vega, LCSW
Licensed Psychotherapist in Arizona & Texas
I provide therapy for women and LGBTQ+ clients navigating life transitions, relationships, and family-of-origin wounds - in person in Phoenix and virtually across Arizona and Texas.
Why Polite Canoe?
Canoes can be single or duo - like individuals or couples. They’re self-powered, steady and slow to change. Paddle too hard, and you’ll tip. Give your oars away (time, energy, or resources), and you can’t steer your own course. Healing often works the same way.
My approach
My approach to therapy is both evidence-based and deeply human. I integrate modalities including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Processing Therapy, and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), along with advanced training in couples work through Integrative Behavioral Couple’s Therapy (IBCT) and the Gottman Method.
